One of my more original creations.
Raphenezarius is a ocean dwelling creature who feeds on mollusks and other shellfish by cracking them with its large claws and licking up the soft morsels with its rough tongue. Raphenezarius ranges in size depending on the size of its territory and the availability of food but averages at about 24 feet in length. It is well known that large reef systems can support specimens up to 36 feet.
Raphenezarius is generally docile and non threatening to swimmers and animals of similar size. It generally does not feed on vertebrates so even small fish do not flee from it. With its armored, jointed legs it can crawl on rocky tide pools to locate its prey but moves most easily in water. It has a pair of very long internal gill-like organs that draw oxygen from water or air from inside its throat. When it breathes water, the ingested water is then projected back out of the body through a system of ducts that protrude on its upper back.
Raphenezarius has no moving joints in its jaw. Prey is ingested using the rough surface of the tongue to draw it back into the throat where other muscles draw it down to the stomach.

Raphenezarius is an imaginary animal of my own creation, so please ask me if you would like to use the concept for something and if I give my consent, you must credit me wherever you chose to display it.
